The Centre on Friday announced an aid of Rs 500 crore to flood-hit Gujarat, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said.
Patil, who arrived in the state to take stock of the flood situation, said this was an initial package and that more will be announced in a fortnight after assessment of the damage due to the flood.
Patil would conduct an aerial survey of the worst affected districts of Gujarat tomorrow.
Addressing the media along with Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images], Patil described the situation as "tragic" and said that the situation was a concern for the entire nation.
