Tremors continue to rattle Nicobar

Ten moderate aftershocks rocked the Nicobar Islands at regular intervals, the strongest measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, since Thursday night, the Met department said on Friday.

Camorta Islands recorded six tremors measuring between 5.1 and 5.5, with the first recorded at 1111 IST on Thursday night. The remaining were recorded between 0023 and 0457 IST, the sources said.

Two quakes measuring 5.1 hit the region off the coast of Little Nicobar Islands.

The Great Nicobar Islands experienced tremors of 5.2 and 5.3 at 0140 IST and 0902 IST, respectively.

The region has been experiencing frequent aftershocks since the December 26 earthquake.
