The ruling Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti, escaped a bid on her life on Monday, official sources said.

A grenade hurled by militants missed her motorcade, the sources said. However, one person was injured when it exploded, they added.

Mehbooba was campaigning on the outskirts of Srinagar [Images] for the upcoming civic elections. She said she had heard an explosion, but was not sure if it was a grenade attack or a firecracker being burst as part of Eid celebrations.

The PDP president continued her canvassing in the city in spite of the attack, the sources added.
