A three-tier security blanket has been thrown around Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar [Images], the venue for the main Republic Day function in Jammu and Kashmir [Images].

All roads leading to the stadium have been sealed and security personnel have been deployed on rooftops near the stadium, a senior police officer said.

Check points have been set up all over the city to check vehicles entering and leaving Srinagar.

Security agencies have been put on high alert in view of the recent suicide attacks by militants on the income tax and regional passport offices in the heart of the city, the officer said.

Al Mansoorian militant outfit, which had claimed responsibility for the attack, has asked people to stay away from Republic Day functions in the Valley.
