A Kanchipuram court on Wednesday remanded Kanchi Sankara Mutt junior pontiff Vijayendra Saraswati in judicial custody till January 24.

The police, which had taken the junior seer into 24-hour custody for interrogation on Tuesday, produced him before First Class Judicial Magistrate G Uthamaraj in the evening after his custody expired.

Vijayendra Saraswati was later taken to the Chennai central prison.

The junior acharya was arrested on January 10 in connection with the Sankararaman murder case and was made the second accused, the first being Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati.

Meanwhile, the Chengalpattu sessions court adjourned the hearing on Vijayendra's bail plea to January 25 following a request from the prosecution.

Judge S Vanagamudi also adjourned the bail petitions of Vijayendra Saraswati's brother Raghu and mutt manager Sundaresa Iyer to the same day.

The prosecution sought time to enable Supreme Court senior advocate K T S Tulsi to appear on its behalf.
