At least 200 commuters were hurt, some seriously, when two Bangkok subway trains collided about 9.30 am Monday, reports Xinhua.

All subway services in the city were suspended pending an investigation.

Local TV and radio reports said the accident occurred near the Cultural Center station in northeastern Bangkok when a train preparing to leave the station collided with another one which was under repair.

Over 130 passengers were injured as the accident happened at the morning rush hour, Xinhua said.

The capital's public transportation administration has ordered the suspension of all subway trains. Rescue officials said all passengers had been brought out of the underground train and the the injured admitted to nearby hospitals.

Initial investigations indicate that a train under repair slid out of the repair station and collided with the other train.

After seven years of construction, the Bangkok subway began operations in early July. The 20-km-long subway has 18 stations and can carry some 250,000 passengers daily.
