Additional Sessions Judge Chander Shekhar had convicted Rahul and Amit on January 6.

Another accused, Ashok, who was charged with helping the rapists, was discharged due to lack of evidence.

A fourth-year student of prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College was raped on November 15, 2002 at Khooni Darwaza, an 18th century monument on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in central Delhi.

The girl was on her way home from the college when Rahul and Amit forced her at knife point to accompany them to the Khooni Darwaza, where they raped her.

The police found the girl lying by the road side hours after the incident.

The police had arrested Rahul and Amit from the Yamuna Pushta slums close to the medical college.
