Doctor U K Raja's captors released him on Sunday after keeping him hostage for a fortnight in Bihar's Madhepura district, police said.

Raja, who was abducted by unidentified gunmen on January 1 while proceeding to Purnea with his family members, has returned home safely, they said.

Private and government doctors were on an indefinite strike since January 3 to press for the orthopaedic surgeon's release.
