Rift between Kanchi seers

January 13, 2005 12:51 IST

All is not well between Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati and his deputy Vijayendra Saraswati.

A video clip of Jayendra's custodial interrogation shows he had complained that Vijayendra was only concerned that he or his brother should not be arrested in the Sankararaman murder case, and they had no regard for their guru.

Jayendra said he had not asked that Sankararaman be beaten or stabbed and also expressed anguish over the letters written by the former.

The compact discs containing excerpts of the interrogation were delivered at the offices of some TV channels, which telecast it late Wednesday night.

The Kanchi mutt remained silent on the issue.

Hindu Munnani leader Ramagopalan, who had called on the seer on Wednesday evening, said, "The whole episode is concocted."

The clippings have been telecast at a juncture when the state government has moved the Supreme Court, seeking modification of the bail conditions of Jayendra, saying that he should remain in north India till the filing of a charge sheet in the case.
