Junior seer seeks bail

Junior pontiff of the Kanchi mutt Vijayendra Saraswathi on Wednesday moved the Chengalpattu sessions court seeking bail in the Sankararaman murder case, in which he has been arrested.

Senior lawyer Lakshmana Reddiyar moved the bail application on behalf of Vijayendra Saraswati, who was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

Meanwhile, the court will take up for hearing on January 13 the bail application of Raghu, brother of Vijayendra Saraswati, while that of Sundaresa Iyer, manager of the mutt, will be taken up on Wednesday.

The bail peitition of the mutt's accountant Viswanatha Iyer, arrested on charges of tampering with the mutt's accounts, was rejected by a court in Kanchipuram on Tuesday.
