Tsunami: Asian toll close to 160,000

The toll in the December 26 Tsunami [Images] disaster in Asia has risen to nearly 160,000.

Authorities in Indonesia, the worst hit, said 107,039 died from the tsunami, while 15,420 remain unaccounted for.

In Sri Lanka [Images], 30,680 were confirmed killed, the government said. Another 4,883 people were still missing.

In India the official toll crossed 10,000, with the number of missing at 5,689.

In Thailand the toll stood at 5,300.
