The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing the bail plea of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati in the Sankararaman murder case.

The affidavit was filed in response to the notices issued by the apex court in the case. The court has fixed January six as the next date for hearing the bail plea.

The affidavit details the charges against the seer, which was repeated twice over before the high court. The high court had on both occasions rejected the bail plea of the seer - the last time on December eight.

Meanwhile, the state police have prepared a Special Leave Petition to challenge Monday's high court order granting bail to the Shankaracharya in the Radhakrishnan assault case.

The appeal is likely to be filed on Thursday, sources said.

The Tamil Nadu police have also brought with them the entire case diary and the confessional statements recorded by them of several accused and witnesses in the murder case.
