The Sindhi Council of India has moved the Supreme Court opposing a public interest litigation seeking the deletion of 'Sindh' from the national anthem.
The council said it would be a blow to 'seven million Sindhis' in the country if the word was deleted.
Denouncing the attempt to link the word 'Sindh' in the anthem to the province in Pakistan, the SCI in its application before the court said, "In Pakistan Sindhi is not an official language.
"The official work even in Sindh is carried out in Urdu. The Pakistan government has forced Urdu medium in Sindh schools," the statement added.
"The anthem had no reference to any particular geographical area as its composition was general and referred to some of the cultural influences in India," said advocate Vijay Panjwani, who moved the application on behalf of the SCI.
Referring to Sindhis contribution in India, the SCI said, "Sindhis are creators of wealth and generate employment. It is believed that one Sindhi on an average generates employment for eleven non-Sindhis."
