Siwan district magistrate-cum-returning officer on Friday debarred controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin from entering the district in Bihar for one year.

On Tuesday, Shahabuddin and four others Janata Dal (United) MP from Maharajganj Prabhunath Singh, RJD MPs and Chief Minister Rabri Devi's brothers Sadhu and Subhas Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party leader Kali Pandey -- were debarred from entering Siwan till February 28 to ensure the peaceful conduct of the third phase of the assembly election in the state on February 23.

District Magistrate C K Anil had then ordered Shahabuddin, RJD leader Jitendra Swami and a rebel RJD leader Vikram Kuer to appear either in person or through their advocates in his court on Friday. The order against Swami and Kuer had been reserved for a future date, official sources said.

Earlier in the day, Shahabuddin was granted bail by the Patna high court in the kidnapping and murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (Liberation) worker Munna Chaudhary in 2001.

He has been in jail for the past 18 months in connection with the case.
