Your wishes have reached the President!
February 15, 2005

When President A P J Abdul Kalam fractured his shoulder on a walk in the Botanical Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan [Images] on February 6, the nation held its breath.

After all, Kalam is perhaps the most popular President that the country has had.

Ever since becoming President, Kalam has travelled around the country meeting ordinary people, especially children, and understanding their problems.

To rediff.com the incident gave a chance to show how much everyone cares for the President.

The next day it posted a message board so that  readers could wish him a speedy recovery.

Hundreds of messages poured in from the President's 'fans' all over the world.

One well wisher, Sairam Behera, said, 'Perhaps the Almighty sometimes takes pleasure in giving pain to his greatest devotee.'

K V Menon from Mumbai said, 'In my daily prayer that day, I included your name and asked for speedy recovery which was heard by the Almighty.'

When Associate Editor Onkar Singh met the President's Press Secretary S M Khan (see image above) to deliver your messages on Monday, he was told the President was doing well and attending to all his duties.

Khan said the President, who was touched by the affection showered on him, thanked rediff.com and all those who wrote in to him.
