The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially reopened on Saturday, leading to the evacuation of around 1,100 passengers.

"The highway has been partially reopened for vehicular traffic as the Jawahar Tunnel, the main link between Srinagar [Images] and Jammu, which was blocked due to snow, has been thrown open at around 1100 IST today despite bad weather and red alert by the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment," an official said.

Fresh landslides have taken place in Ramsoo and Panthal areas on the highway, which the Border Road Organisation is working round-the-clock to clear.

The official said that 110 vehicles have passed through Jawahar Tunnel towards Kashmir.

However, there are around 1,400 passengers still stranded in the area, he added.
