A man in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on Monday said that his 17-year-old daughter was kidnapped a week ago.

J N Biswal, deputy general manager, sales, IISCO, said that his daughter Dipika Dipanjali, a student of Class X, was missing since the morning of January 31, when she went out for a walk near the house.

Biswal said he had lodged a complaint with police within three hours of her disappearance, but there had been no progress in the case.

He said he had received three telephone calls since February 3 from a man who told him that his daughter was in his custody.

The police said the call had been traced to a place in Gujarat.

Superintendent of Police Amitav Thakur said a team was being despatched to Gujarat to search for the girl.

Thakur said the police had initially registered a missing report but now it was being looked at as a case of kidnapping.
