Expressing dismay over the delay in formulation of a parking policy for Delhi, the Supreme Court on Friday asked the Delhi government to submit within four weeks an action plan in this regard.

The court had earlier taken strong exception to the delay in formulation of the policy and restrained the government from sanctioning any new plans for construction of commercial plazas and complexes in the city.

Appearing for the Delhi government, advocate S W A Quadri said it is the prerogative of  the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Delhi Development Authority to sit together and evolve a parking policy.

A Bench comprising Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice S H Kapadia, however, said it is the duty of the Delhi government to consult these agencies and formulate a policy.
