The 28 finalists of the Grasim Mr India contest were short-listed from 15,000 applications.

The early selection rounds were based on photographs and resumes of the applicants. Some 500 contestants were listed for the regional rounds, which were held in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi.

The 28 finalists had to undergo six months of rigorous training. Experts like Sabira Merchant (communication skills), Dr Jamuna Pai (skin care), Kishore Namit Kapoor (theatre) and others guided them through the process.
