Five members of a family, including three children and a woman, died and four others were seriously injured when an under construction wall fell on them in Gokulpuri area of northeast Delhi Saturday afternoon.

While five of a family died, four others have been admitted to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in serious condition, said a senior police official.

All of them were basking in the sun when the under-construction 8-ft wall of a school fell on them at about 1500 hrs in Karawal Nagar under Gokulpuri police station, he elaborated.

The death toll was high because rescue work could not be carried out fast due to debris lying there, said the official.

Efforts are on to trace the contractor who was building the wall, police added.
