The Maharashtra government is considering to make viewing of obscene material at internet cafes a non-bailable offence, Minister of State for Home Siddharam Mhetre told the legislative council on Tuesday.

The relevant laws would have to be amended for this, he added.

Replying to questions during a discussion on a calling-attention motion from Neelam Gorhe of the Shiv Sena, Mhetre said the state government would form a committee of experts to examine ways and means of preventing the display of obscene material in internet cafes.
