December 10, 2005 15:15 IST

Former Union minister and Janata Dal-United president George Fernandes Saturday underwent a successful neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.

Fernandes, who had been admitted to the AIIMS on December 6 after he complained of sustained headache, was operated upon to remove fluid accumulated in the brain, JD-U general secretary Shambhu Shrivastava told PTI.

The former defence minister is doing fine and recovering well, he said.

Fernandes will remain in hospital for a few days.
