BJP demands Manipur CM's resignation

December 08, 2005 11:36 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party Thursday demanded the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh for his alleged involvement in providing funds to underground outfits.

Talking to UNI in Aizawl Thursday, BJP northeast in-charge Satish said Ibobi Singh should submit his resignation in the wake of the serious allegation against him of providing funds to underground outfits such as the Revolutionary Peoples' Front and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup by the army.

"There should be an immediate Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the matter," he added.

Satish, who was in Aizawl on a day's tour to the state, also said that inquiry into similar allegations against six other Cabinet ministers of Manipur was yet to be instituted.

Alleging that the Congress leadership at the Centre is taking the issue casually, the BJP leader said, "No official announcement or statement has yet been made by the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre."

"We will be taking up the issue in the on-going Parliament session," he said.
