Police on Tuesday night allegedly baton charged an irate group of followers of Sri Narendra Maharaj at the Mumbai airport, airport sources said.

Women and children were among those injured, they said.

The charge was ordered after a group of followers of the Maharaj, who is based at Naneej in Konkan region, went on a rampage at the airport, protesting the Delhi Airport authorities decision not to allow the Maharaj to carry his mace on board a Mumbai-bound flight, the sources said.

Even as the charge continued, there were reports that the Maharaj had arrived in Mumbai and was in talks with the airport authorities and police on the issue.
