Low intensity tremors felt in Maharashtra

Two low intensity tremors, whose epicentre lay close to Koyna dam in Satara district, shook parts of Maharashtra, including Pune and Mumbai, on Tuesday.

However, no damage was reported, sources said.

The tremors, whose epicentre lay in Satara district's Patan taluka, were recorded at 2:23 pm and 3:03 pm and measured 4.5 and 3.3 respectively on the richter scale, according to Executive Engineer of Koyana Dam Deepak Modak.

The epicentre of the first tremor was 19.2 kms south west from Koyana dam while that of the second was 24.8 km south of the dam in Patan taluka of Satara district, he said, adding there was no damage to the dam.

Pune, Mumbai, Karad and many other places in western Maharashtra experienced the tremors in the afternoon.
