Tension prevailed in a residential colony in Pune on Monday after a showdown on Sunday night between university students and residents, who have rented out flats to them.

Miffed by the alleged "persistant nuisance" caused by a large number of university students, a lady resident lodged a police complaint against some of them resulting in the show down when the students were asked to vacate the rented premises, police sources said on Monday.

Police personnel were deployed in the colony to avoid the situation from going out of hand, they said, but denied that there was tension in the area.

According to sources, the residents and the students decided to sort out the matter in a meeting in the presence of senior police officials on Monday.
