A Pakistani soldier convicted of taking part in a failed assassination plot against President Pervez Musharraf [Images] was hanged on Saturday, an official and military spokesman said.

Islam Sadiqqui was among several soldiers arrested after Al Qaeda [Images] operatives and domestic militants - including army officers - tried to blow up Musharraf's motorcade as it was travelling near the capital Islamabad on December 14, 2003.

Although no one was hurt in the attack, at least 16 people, mostly the president's police guards, were killed and several others wounded. Suicide bombers on December 25 again tried to hit 2 explosive laden vehicles with the president's limousine.

Musharraf was again lucky and he survived the second attack as well.
