At least 3 people were killed after police opened fire in Maharajganj town in Siwan district of Bihar on Tuesday.

Sources said the deaths occurred when police opened fire on local people who were protesting the removal of a bus stand following the death of a child in a bus accident, a few days ago.

However, senior police officials confirmed the death of only 2 persons.

"All the victims were local people. This sent shockwaves and created tension in Maharajganj," a police official said.

Interestingly, Siwan is one of the 5 districts in Bihar without a superintendent of police.
