A person, who stabbed a woman to death and left another seriously injured at the Gateway of India in Mumbai on Saturday evening, was on Sunday remanded to police custody till August 28.

27-year accused, Uzer Patel, who was nabbed immediately by the police at the spot, was produced before a Mumbai court, which remanded him to police custody, the police said.

The accused had pulled the hair of one of the women and slit her throat and injured the other woman who tried to help her friend.

The women worked in a hotel in the city suburbs and were staying together, police said.

The police further informed that the accused was booked by the Oshiwara police earlier on the same day for attacking and injuring his father and a neighbour with a sharp weapon.
