Missile programme on course: Pranab

August 13, 2005 19:24 IST

Two days after Pakistan test fired its first 500-km range cruise missile, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said India's missile programme was progressing on schedule and without any hitches.

"The country's missile development programme is running smoothly and on schedule", the Minister said in an address to the troops on the eve of Independence Day.

Other major defence programmes like development of Light Combat Aircraft were also progressing speedily, he added.

He said the fencing of the 742-km stretch of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] had been completed.

Mukherjee agreed that in spite of the fencing, infiltration of terrorists from across the border had shown a sharp upswing in the last two months.
