Police have registered a First Information Report against Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator of the dissolved Bihar assembly, Sunil Kumar 'pushpam', and 4 unknown persons, on the charge of allegedly beating and causing the death of a pregnant dalit woman with rifle butts in Samastipur district.

Police Superintendent Yogendra Paswan told PTI that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint by Kabutri Devi, sister-in-law of the victim, Manju Devi, a day after her death on Saturday at a hospital in Begusarai.

Paswan said the case was lodged with the Bithan police station in Samastipur and the officer-in-charge Rajkumar Yadav was made the investigating officer.

"We will proceed in this case in accordance with the law," the sp replied when asked whether the police would arrest the RJD legislator.

Mystery shrouds the death of Manju of Chechn village under Bithan police station of the district who was allegedly assaulted mercilessly by the former MLA from Hasanpur, Pushpam, near Sirsiya village on August 2.

In the First Information Report, Kabutri has alleged that Manju was hit on her abdomen with rifle butts as she could not quickly give way to the vehicle of the former MLA. She bled profusely due to the attack and died after 4 days of treatment at a Begusarai hospital.
