A Delhi court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the death of Anju Ilyasi filed by her mother Rukma Singh in which the husband of the deceased and producer of the teleserial India's Most Wanted Suhaib Ilyasi is facing trial.

"The application filed after a gap of more than five years is devoid of reasons and is aimed at delaying the trial," Additional Sessions Judge Chandra Gupta said rejecting her plea.

In the petition filed on July 12, Rukma said a CBI probe was necessary as 'the police, influenced by the accused, had not carried out the investigation into the death of her daughter in a 'forthright and objective manner'.

She also accused Ilyasi 'of using his contacts and position to eliminate evidence'.

In his reply filed on July 22, Ilyasi sought the dismissal of the petition terming it 'motivated and aimed at delaying the trial'.

The 'frivolous petition comes when five crucial prosecution witnesses have already been examined and the deceased's father and brother had not implicated me', he said.

Suhaib is charged under sections 304B (dowry death) and 498A (cruelty by husband) of the Indian Penal Code in the case.

Anju was found in a serious condition with stab wounds on the night of January 10, 2000, at her matrimonial home at Mayur Vihar in East Delhi. She later succumbed to her injuries at a city hospital.
