The condition of veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet, who was hospitalised in Bangkok on Friday following diarrhoea and dehydration, has improved, party sources said in New Delhi on Saturday.

However, the leader will remain in the hospital for observation for another day or so, the sources said.

They added that senior party legislator Nilotpal Basu had reached Bangkok and joined Surjeet and his grandson.

After discharge, Surjeet would return to Delhi, the sources said.

Surjeet had fallen ill on his way to attend the 30th anniversary celebrations of the liberation of South Vietnam.

External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh had on Friday spoken to Surjeet as also to Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai who had assured him that the veteran leader would be given the best medical treatment.
