Train mishap: Samalaya station master arrested

The Station Master of Samlaya was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the April 21 Sabarmati Express train accident, police in Vadodara said.

Seveenteen passengers were killed and over 125 received injuries after the train, which was proceeding towards Ahmedabad, collided with a stationary goods train.

Meanwhile, a switchman working at Samlaya railway station has been suspended.

With the suspension of Jaysinh Lal Vasava, the number of suspended railway staff in the wake of the accident has gone up to seven.

Vasava is one of the three against whom charges of murder, attempt to murder and causing serious injuries to passengers have been made.

He, along with Balwant Singh Baria and Budda Puna Baria, will be produced before magistrate A S Ghelot, Railway Police sources said.
