The Bihar government will file a first information report and investigate the alleged defalcation and diversion of funds meant for flood relief in the state by the then Patna district magistrate Gautam Goswami, Governor Buta Singh said on Tuesday.

"Yes, surely it will be," Singh told NDTV when asked if an FIR will be registered in connection with the scam.

He said the allegation had come to his 'notice', and he also got to know about it from a media report. "I will get it investigated properly," Singh said, adding whoever is found guilty will be punished.

Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian on Monday said a vigilance inquiry had been ordered into the allegations against Goswami and others and the report was expected within a month.

He said the state government had not yet accepted the Goswami's resignation from service. If needed he would be called back to explain his position and face legal formalities.

Goswami, a 1992 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, who was honoured by Time magazine as a 'Young Asian Hero' last year, resigned from state government service to join the Sahara group as a vice-president shortly before the February assembly elections.
