A Central Bureau of Investigation court in Ranchi has framed charges against Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the 1996 fodder scam case.

Lalu appeared before a special CBI court in Ranchi on Monday.

CBI Judge IV (CBI animal husbandry scam cases) Uma Shankar Prasad Sinha also framed charges against former chief minister Jagannath Mishra, former member of Parliament Rajo Singh and 67 others in connection with a case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 crore from Chaibasa treasury in 1996.

The Union railway minister is accused in five of the 39 cases related to the scam which have been transferred to Jharkhand.

Lalu was the chief minister of undivided Bihar at that time.
