Flag fiasco: BJP demands apology from Pervez

April 16, 2005 19:37 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday demanded an apology from Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf [Images] for the display of the Indian flag upside down on the special PIA plane that brought him to Jaipur from Islamabad.

"It appears to have been done inadvertently. Even then, it is a serious lapse. He (Musharraf) should apologise for it as it has hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians," BJP deputy leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra said.

The aircraft had the tricolor on one side of its nose and Pakistan flag on the other. The Indian flag was placed with the green on top and saffron below.

However, the mistake was detected soon after Musharraf and his wife Sehba left for Ajmer in a helicopter and was corrected.
