The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Centre had failed in its public duty towards people of Delhi by not cleaning the waters of river Yamuna despite repeated promises.

The court castigated the government for lacking in will to remove unauthorised coloniesªthat pollute the river watersªfrom the banks of the river.

The court directed the Union Urban Development Secretary to file an affidavit within four weeks detailing ways to clean the river.
