Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Shivanand Tiwari was on Saturday arrested and later released on the orders of  Siwan District Magistrate C K Anil.

Official sources said Tiwari was released after Bihar Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian convinced District Magistrate to revoke his order.

Tiwari was arrested in Patna minutes before he was to leave for Siwan. There is a ban on his entry into Siwan.

The ban followed an alleged "provocative" speech Tiwari delivered against the Siwan district magistrate.

Tiwari was taken into custody after District Magistrate Anil issued an arrest warrant against him, Senior Superintendent of Police N H Khan said.

Anil had earlier banned Siwan's member of Parliament, Mohammed Shahabuddin of the RJD, from the district for six months during the February assembly polls.
