The Supreme Court on Friday permitted Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, to undergo treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.

A bench, comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha, made it clear that proper security arrangements had to be made in the hospital if Yadav were to be treated as an in patient.

His visitors would be confined to nearest family members only, it said.

The court directed that the medical report be made available to it within 10 days.

The order followed a report given by a medical board constituted to look into Yadav's pleas for obtaining treatment at AIIMS.

Yadav, allegedly involved in 'illegal antics' while in Patna's Beur Jail, had been shifted to the high-security Tihar Jail in New Delhi in February following an apex Court order.
