The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday conducted raids at seven places, including on the residences of former Haryana
chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala, in connection with the Junior Basic Teachers recruitment scam in the state.

The raids were being carried out in Delhi [Images], Haryana and Chandigarh.

In Haryana, the raids were being conducted at Palwal, Sirsa, Kurukshetra and Bhiwani. Telephone lines of the Chautalas in Sirsa were snapped temporarily.

A Chandigarh report said raids were carried out at a Sector 9 house (under construction) believed to be that of the Chautala family. The former CM's political advisor, Sher Singh Badshami's residence at Sector 5 in Kurukshetra was also raided.

At Bhiwani, the house of a key Chautala aide, Vidya Dhar, was searched, CBI sources added.

Chautala's ancestral house at Teja Khera in Sirsa was also being searched.

Sirsa police chief K K Rao said the CBI had not taken into confidence the local police while carrying out the raids.

A search was also conducted at Congress Palwal member of Legislative Assembly Karan Singh Dalal's residence at Chandigarh's Sector 15 and senior Haryana Indian Administrative Service officer Harbaksh Singh's residence at Sector 24.

The CBI had registered a case in connection with the scam in May, 2004. It had named 19 people as accused.
