A fire broke out at the popular 'Russian Circus', which is currently performing at Andheri, a Mumbai suburb, on Monday.

Several animals were feared dead, fire brigade sources said.

Preliminary reports indicated that four sea lions, ten dogs and seven cats might have perished in the fire.

Officials said the fire broke around 1500 IST at the Chitrakoot Maidan, Andheri. Fire brigade officials rushed two fire engines and two water tankers.

The cause of the fire is still not known.

'Russian Circus' was at the centre of a controversy after an animal welfare group challenged its shows in the Bombay high court.
