SGPC to send team to Pakistan

September 28, 2004 18:24 IST

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Bibi Jagir Kaur has decided to send a five-member team to Pakistan to enquire into the attack on Gurdwara Janam Asthan and the ransacking of business establishments of Sikhs.

The team will also meet the Chief Minister of West Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and Evacuee Trust Properties Board authorities and ask them to ensure protection of lives, properties and shrines of Sikhs, a microscopic minority in Pakistan, SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh said in Amritsar on Tuesday.

"The gurdwaras are not only place of worship of Sikhs, but also nerve centres of their religious and social activities, and are glorious history and rich heritage of Sikhs," he said.

Bibi Jagir Kaur will call upon the Pakistani high commissioner in New Delhi to lodge a protest against the incident, Singh added.
