Kalam's name in a list of DDA defaulters

September 23, 2004 08:54 IST

In a glaring goof-up, the Delhi Development Authority has named President A P J Abdul Kalam as a defaulter.

President Kalam's name appeared on a notice board at DDA's Siri Fort Sports Complex in a list of around 900 people who have defaulted on payment of membership fees.

An embarrassed DDA on Wednesday said it "deeply regrets" the "mistake." An inquiry has been ordered to find out how the name found its way into the list issued on August 25.

President Kalam's name has now been erased from the list. "There was no bill raised at the sports complex, so the question of his defaulting does not arise," a DDA spokesperson said.

She said it appeared to have been a computer glitch, adding that the DDA will send President Kalam a letter of apology.
