Manipur CM admits human rights violations

In an indirect admission that human rights had been violated in Manipur under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Thursday said some innocent people had lost lives in the past few years and urged the Centre to review or modify the Act.

The withdrawal of the Act from seven assembly segments earlier was a signal to the Centre. "Time has come for review or modification of the controversial Act," Singh said addressing a seminar on the role of media in development and peace.

Singh said he had conveyed the feelings and the problems in the state to central leaders but did not elaborate.
