Bandh hits normal life in Manipur

October 27, 2004 11:45 IST

A 24-hour bandh to protest against the killing of three Kuki students by police affected normal life in Manipur on Wednesday.

Shops, markets and business establishments were closed while very thin attendance was reported in government offices due to the strike called by the Kuki Students Organisation.

All transport services in the state and between Manipur and its neighbouring states were disrupted, officials sources said.

Security arrangements had been tightened in the wake of the strike, the sources said.

In a statement here, the KSO said that the three victims were students although official sources had earlier claimed that they were Kuki militants.

The KSO identified the slain persons as Limkhongam Baite (25), Thangpao Baite (20) and Hemminthang Baite (19).
