Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | October 26, 2004 13:07 IST

Myanmar's military ruler General Then Shwe will visit Bodh Gaya and offer prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple on Wednesday.

This will be his first visit to the temple, where Buddha attained enlightenment 25,00 years ago under a tree.

"Security has been tightened for his visit," Gaya Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said.

A 70-member delegation will accompany the military ruler, who will arrive on a chartered plane.

The general, who is on a six-day visit to India, will later leave for Kolkata.
