Varun makes waves at RSS meet

Anand Bhisey in Nagpur | October 23, 2004 16:59 IST

Varun Gandhi created a flutter as he attended the annual Dussera rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Nagpur on Friday.

This was the first time that Varun attended the function after formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, it seems that he still cannot bring himself to be a total Swayamsevak -- he did not do the traditional pranam when the RSS prayer was being said.

It is not known whether Varun attended the function at the invitation of the RSS or if he came on his own. What is known, however, is that he kept his distance from the BJP. While the BJP functionaries in Nagpur had booked him into Ravi Bhavan, its official guesthouse, Varun preferred to check into a leading hotel.

Although Varun spent most part of the day with RSS functionaries, he also took time out to catch up with some old friends and acquaintances.
