AP J Abdul Kalam's home in Rameswaram is not what one would imagined -- a place of comfortable opulence peopled by well-connected members with 'the President's kin' stamped across their foreheads.

What welcomes you in a corner of Rameswaram, a town at the southern-most tip of Tamil Nadu, is a humble, even non-descript, home with a simple 'House of Kalam' sign above the door.

The President's family turns out to be simple folk. People living ordinary lives, having ordinary jobs... people who have reconciled to the fact that their illustrious relative belongs as much now to their billion countrymen as he belongs to them.
