More rockets, used shells; now in Raipur

October 11, 2004 10:47 IST

Two live rockets and 15 used shells were recovered from a consignment of scrap imported from Cameroon by a Raipur-based steel factory, police said on Monday.

The recovery was made at Hira Group's Godavari Ispat Ltd at Siltara industrial area in Raipur on Sunday, Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Juneja said.

Although the rockets are rusted and look very old, they have been isolated with the help of local experts, he said.

"The Jabalpur Ordnance Factory has been requested to depute experts to examine the material," Juneja said.

In the wake of a series of seizures of explosives and ammunitions from various cities across the country, state police -- considering the high concentration of alloy factories in Chhattisgarh -- had on Sunday asked all its district superintendents of police to find out whether any such material had found its way into the state.
